The first year of the Academy's Artist in Residence program ends with recent University of Hawai`i-Manoa graduate Steve Coy (above). Now residing in Detroit, Michigan, Coy returns to Honolulu to transform Gallery 31 into an Urban Futurescape.

Addressing real versus imagined spaces, Coy's installation draws inspiration from corporate and pop culture, fashion, interior design and architecture. An emerging installation artist, his exibition record includes the ambitious and stylish ARTS at Marks Garage 2006 exhibition Hygienic Dress Leauge: Spring Collection, which stands as one of the fenue's most memorable uses of space. Visit Coy as he works his transformatic magic in Gallery 31 on weekends from March 20 to April 25.

Organized by the Academy’s Museum Learning Center with support from the Arthur and Mae Orvis Foundation, Inc., the six-week residency is open to University of Hawai`i graduate art students in their second year or later, and recent MFA recipients. The artists will have access to the Gallery 31 art studio, located beneath the Banyan Courtyard, where visitors can watch them create an interactive body of work. To complete the experience, artists will receive studio visits and critiques from curatorial staff and local arts professionals.
