John Kelly in November

The Academy Shop just received copies of the first ever monograph on Hawai'i artist John Kelly. The book is written by Natasha Roessler Drucker, designed by award-winning Barbara Pope Book Design, and published by the Honolulu Academy of Arts.

Kelly prints at The Academy Shop Nov. 14
During the summer, original prints by John Kelly were discovered in the museum’s Lending Collection. These black-and-white prints, made circa 1934, will be on sale in The Academy Shop beginning Nov. 14. Available will be multiple copies of three etchings: Lau Hala, Making Nets and Kapa Hana. Proceeds will be used to help the Academy continue to provide stellar public programming and exhibitions such as the current Hokusai's Summit

When the Academy’s Lending Collection was first organized in 1927, original paintings and prints were loaned to schools, a practice that ended several decades ago. Today the collection has one original painting and a large number of prints, which were never accessioned into the Academy collection. The condition of the prints varies from good to very foxed (stained with reddish-brown discolorations.) Pristine examples of all three images are in the Academy’s permanent collection.
