Shangri La Virtual Tour

Pending future restoration work, the following areas are not currently shown on the public tours: the Damascus Room, an 18th-century interior from Syria; and the Mughal Suite, a marble bedroom-and-bath suite that Duke commissioned in India in 1935. These areas can, however, be seen on the virtual tour at www.shangrilahawaii.org, in the video at the Academy and in the publication Doris Duke’s Shangri La, which is available in the Academy Shop. The Playhouse is used for special programs and events—check the Shangri La schedule for upcoming programs.

Because of ongoing historic preservation work, the following areas are not currently shown on the public tours: the Damascus Room, an 18th-century interior from Syria; the private bedroom wing; and the interior of the Playhouse. These areas can, however, be seen on the virtual tour at www.shangrilahawaii.org, in the video at the Academy and in the publication entitled Doris Duke’s Shangri La, which is available for purchase in the Academy Shop.
