Academy Shop buyer Martha German has recently acquired an assortment of one-of-a-kind Laotian textiles. From scarves to wall hangings, and table runners to healing cloths, each piece is intricately detailed with color and iconography distinct to the Laotian heritage. Lao textile artist Dalounney "Aire" Phonsouny handcrafts each piece and uses all natural organic dyes. Phonsouny was the resident weaver at the recent exhibition Cosmic Creatures: Textiles from Northeast Lao Communities at the East-West Center. Originally from Houa Phan, Laos, she now lives with her husband and daughter in California.
