The Honolulu Academy of Arts extends its hours on the second Thursday of every month, staying open until 9 p.m.
The evening is called aloHAA, and is part of an effort to make the museum more accessible to people who may want to explore the galleries and special exhibitions, but can’t make it during regular museum hours.
The next aloHAA happens Sept. 9.
At 5pm, the Pavilion Café opens as a counter-service lounge selling small-plate, easy-to-eat dishes. There's also a bar serving beer, wine and a specialty cocktail.
Come back soon to find out the menu and tour offerings.
The evening also features music—live and recorded. Playing will be the Chris Yeh Quartet. It's the perfect way to unwind after work.
Regular museum admission—$10 for adults, $5 for seniors, military and students—applies during aloHAA. Members get in free.
Visitors can make a full evening of aloHAA—see what's new in the galleries, have something to eat and drink, then see a film or performance at the Doris Duke Theatre. There is separate admission for the theater.
The Doris Duke Theatre will screen the French-Canadian hit 1981. Tickets for films can be purchased online.
